Past Events
Conferences
The Institute has sponsored national conferences that explored
important, but little-researched, topics in philanthropy and nonprofit
management. Two landmark conferences on nonprofit management education
have been held:
- 1996: “Nonprofit Management Education 1996: A U.S. and
World Perspective”
- 1986: “Educating Managers of Nonprofit Organizations”
Three additional conferences focused on the role of diverse groups
in the sector:
- 1997: “Asian Pacific Americans and the Nonprofit Sector”
- 1992: “Women, Power, and Status in the Nonprofit Sector”
- 1988: “Hispanics and the Nonprofit Sector”
Conference papers, later published as books, [link to Research
Reports] serve as invaluable resources for practitioners, scholars,
funders, and policymakers.
Distinguished Public Lectures
To foster discussion on major topics related to nonprofit management
and philanthropy, the Institute has sponsored free community lectures
by nationally recognized leaders. Speakers have included John Gardner
(founder of Common Cause and Independent Sector), Reynold Levy (AT&T
Foundation), Frances Hesselbein (Drucker Foundation), Robert Payton
(founder of Indiana University Center on Philanthropy), Sara Melendez
(Independent Sector), and Susan Berresford (Ford Foundation).
Additional Events
Additional conferences and events have included 5-day workshops
on management for clergy (“The Ministry of Management”)
and one-day workshops for nonprofit leaders led by Institute faculty
and alumni (“Nonprofit Management Day at USF”).
